In the military, the first lesson is usually “never volunteer.” Yet, I did just that, leading to an assignment where I learned to shoot and process film in the field. The magical moment when an image first appeared on photo paper in the darkroom captivated me, sparking a lifelong passion for photography. I invested in a camera, honed my skills in shooting and developing, and soon, photography became second nature. During my off-duty hours, I volunteered at a local newspaper to broaden my skills, and despite numerous entries in photo contests without a win, my dedication to my craft never wavered.
My professional journey began at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, where I mastered the technical nuances of scientific photography. My photographs contributed to numerous scientific publications and were featured in several commercially published books. Eventually, I established my own studio.
I then shifted focus to work with small advertising agencies, specializing in architectural and industrial photography. This niche became my expertise. A significant job within one of these agencies offered insights into the commercial lifecycle of my photographs, from creation to sale, enhancing my understanding of the business aspects of photography.
Despite never abandoning photography, a health setback forced me to close my studio. I redirected my career, earned my RN credentials, and spent the next two decades in ICUs and ERs. Retirement didn’t end my journey; I became a flight nurse, traveling globally and capturing countless images, many of which won photo competitions.
Today, my work, celebrated in galleries and art shows, is also available for purchase on this website. These pages are dedicated to sharing and offering my photography.
